Sonic Frontiers’ Final Free Content Update Adds New Playable Characters In September

Sonic Frontiers, released in late 2012, was largely hailed as a good game but with “rough edges.” Sega’s decision to continue supporting the game post-launch by providing free updates is a great move. Teased today at Gamescom, the next pack of content, known as “The Final Horizon” update, is the most exciting yet, promising new story, new challenges, and even new playable characters.

We don’t get much from the teaser. Sonic and his friends are standing on the edge a cliff to prepare for a titanic battle. Knuckles, Amy, and Tails are all candidates to be playable characters in the future, but there’s no indication of that here – Sonic summons the Chaos Emeralds to become Super Sonic, ready to face off against this mysterious threat, then powers up yet again as he races toward the Titan.

To get any further details we will have to wait till the update is released on September 28. That’s just over a week away.
