Solo Back 4 Blood sounds worse than it is

Back 4 Blood has a big warning if you attempt to jump in solo, and it’s started to freak some players out. Don’t be afraid, zombie loners. Back 4 Blood with bots isn’t as bad as it sounds.

You can select Solo Campaign by going to the menu. Back 4 Blood, you’ll see a scary message:

Solo decks can be used in Fort Hope deck menu. You can adjust maps and objectives. Matchmaking is disabled. The ability to earn Supply Points has been disabled. Stat tracking is not possible. The ability to earn progress towards Accomplishments cannot be achieved.

This sounds very harsh, and Turtle Rock Studios wouldn’t want you to experience their game in this manner. Solo campaigns are a fantastic sandbox option for those who like to experiment or go at their own speed.

Back 4 BloodA card system which impacts the stats of some abilities and other aspects during a run. These cards can be unlocked by players using Supply Points. For solo decks all cards can be unlocked immediately in the menu. There’s no buying required; you just build the deck you want and go.

This context makes sense of all the other restrictions. Supply Points are for unlocking cards, and you don’t need those when you already have them all — plus, Turtle Rock probably doesn’t want players endlessly farming points with bots, which would trivialize the in-game economy (you can’t buy cards with real money).

It makes sense not allow invitations, as solo cases are unique. And Accomplishments —Back 4 Blood’s name for achievements — may be easier or even exploitable with fully upgraded decks and bots, undervaluing some of the rewards they come with.

My review session saw me play the first four levels. Back 4 BloodWith bots. I found their stupidity in the Recruit difficulty to be my greatest problem, as well as their inability or unwillingness to mount turrets and accomplish other story objectives. However, this gave me more control of my playtime. It was a calmer apocalypse most of the time, where I wasn’t rushing to keep up with internet randos or waiting for slowpokes to figure out what to do.

Back 4 BloodSolo players can drag an AI along with them to the zombie horde if they just want to view all levels.
