Slay the Spire’s board game adaptation hits funding goal in 6 minutes
Hit video game Slay the SpireFunding looks good for a board game adaption. Slay the Spire: The Board Game’S Contention Games’ Kickstarter campaign reached its goal six minutes after it went live. It also hit $1 million its first day. It’s still climbing (pun intended). This board game appears to be an almost exact copy of the video game with one small modification. Slay the Spire: A Board Game will be cooperative for one to four players, in contrast to the original’s solo play. The funding closes Nov. 18 with the backer reward set for Dec. 2023.
The Spire is yours to tameThe video game is called. It is both a great deck-builder, and roguelike. The players choose a starting character, such as Watcher, Silent, Defect or Watcher, and create a custom deck. They then use that deck in various challenges. The video game requires strategic choices at every turn, from the path you’ll take — and whether you’ll fight monsters, heal at a campfire, burn cards, or buy up stronger cards at a merchant — to building a deck that works synergistically. You can unlock additional cards or relics with each playthrough, which you can use to enhance your characters’ power and chaos on the next run.

With an art style that is remarkably similar to the video games, virtual cards can now be made tangible with the boardgame. The board game, backed at the “Slayer’s Pledge” reward tier, includes more than 730 cards total, spread across events, relics, character cards, curses, potions, and more. Many familiar faces are represented, including mini-figures for all four characters and player boards. You can create dozens of combinations by using more than 80 different cards for each character. The map board also has the signature look of the video game’s overworld map, with forking dungeon paths.
The beauty and elegance of The Spire is yours to tameThe fun part is in all the combinations you can put together. This adds excitement to the tabletop and is a joy for those who have always wanted to play the game with other players.
