Sick of Wordle? Try Scrabble-like Wurdweb

Many people have moved on. WordleThe New York Times now owns the word game ‘, which swept the globe earlier in the year. (But some, like my mom — hi, Mom — haven’t, of course.) Without Wordle in my life, I’d dropped off word games entirely until I came across WurdwebPlease see: ScrabbleIt’s a boardgame that is innovative and fun.

WurdwebIt was made available on Apple Arcade by developers Adriaan De Jongh (who also worked on it) Hidden FolksThe game was released by ) on Windows PC via Steam last week. You can see the images in this gallery. WurdwebIt is nearly indistinguishable Scrabble — but in practice, it’s entirely different. Instead of giving player letters WurdwebGives you the words.

To create word webs, connect letters and move across the board. The goal is to reach a specific puzzle type. To win, you must finish your web by completing a specific tile. Different colored blocks on the board add new wordsTo your list and are essential to collect, or else you’ll quickly run out and you won’t meet your goal.

I’ve likened Wurdweb to ScrabbleFor obvious reasons it is difficult to describe, but the feeling is there. Tetris; puzzling how out to fit words tightly together, slotting them in spaces in a way that’s precIt ise and deliberate. You’re not clearing lines, but there isAn art is essential for its construction. This is the more challenging part of the game — the words are already there, and it’s easy to see where they’d link up with other words. You need to ensure that those placements are for your benefit and not against it.

Wurdweb’s puzzles are procedurally generated, which means there’s an unlimited number of them. I intended to finish playing a few rounds last night before going to bed, but ended up spending more than an hour creating word webs.

WurdwebIt is free with the Apple Arcade subscription.
