Season 6: Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening | Video Gameography
Let’s rock, baby! Season 6 Video gameographyAs we review the Devil May Cry series, it gets fashionable! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be covering the history and lore of Capcom’s premiere action franchise. After mucking through the gunk of Devil May Cry 2, our reward comes in the form of arguably the series’ magnum opus: Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening.
After inheriting the disaster that was DMC 2, director Hideaki Itsuno implored Capcom to allow him to helm a sequel from the beginning. Devil May Cry 3 combines his fighting game background with feedback from fans. It features a return of the brutally challenging, mechanically complex gameplay that helped to put this series on the map. The story serves as a prequel starring a younger Dante and introducing his villainous twin brother Vergil, establishing a sibling rivalry that would emerge as one of the key pillars of the franchise’s lore. DMC 3 was released on March 1, 2005 and it received critical acclaim as being one of the greatest action games ever created. What did Capcom do to right this ship? Listen to this video to learn more.
