Sea of Thieves tabletop game due to launch in summer 2023

Sea of Thieves, Rare Ltd.’s jolly, massively multi-pirate adventure for PC and Xbox, is getting a tabletop game adaptation from Steamforged Games, the designers behind the forthcoming tabletop version of Elden Ring. Voyage of Legends: The Sea of Thieves Steamforged stated Wednesday that summer 2023 is the expected date for this product to hit shelves.

The game is billed as a “competitive seafaring adventure for 2-4 players,” according to a news release from Steamforged. Steamforged has released a news release stating that players will be able to upgrade their ships from Sloop, Galleon and Galeon as well as hire a crew and trade cargo at the Outpost. Additionally they can hunt treasure for Pirate Lord title. The tabletop will also feature familiar elements from the videogame, such as the abandoned forts and skeleton garrisons and megalodons that threaten their ships at sea, and other epic beasts such as the Megalodon and the Kraken.

“From a creative perspective, Sea of Thieves’ distinctive art style has been a real pleasure to work with, and looks just as evocative on tiles as it does on screen,” Mat Hart, Steamforged Games’ co-founder, said in a statement. “Rare captured pirate magic with their compelling gameplay loop, and that’s something we’ve strived to bring to the board game, too.”

Voyage of Legends: The Sea of Thieves will retail for $59.95 (alternately, £59.99 and €59.95 for international customers). It contains 150 playing cards and 10 standee dice.

Steamforged most recently published two new “core sets” for Dark SoulsBoard GameIt was launched as a product in 2017 and relaunched several years later. The adaptation was made by Monster Hunter: World, Kickstarter first revealed the news in 2020. It is likely to be shipped to supporters soon.
