Sea of Thieves rowboats get a cannon upgrade for season 5

Sea of ThievesThere are a variety of vessels that can be used to transport people, including the two-person sloop and the galleon. According to a new teaser from developer Rare on Twitter, the game’s tiniest ship is about to get a big — and violent — upgrade.

Rare’s Twitter post reads “Looks like the shipwrights have been busy …” and an accompanying video zooms over a sloop, a brigantine, and a galleon to reveal a rowboat … with a cannon.

That’s right — the game’s tiniest ship, meant for emergencies and hauling treasure, is now capable of offense. A rowboat captain can sink larger vessels if they are determined.

The rowboat first appeared in the Forsaken Shores update, which added the fiery Devil’s Roar region to the map. Many crews found rowboats essential because they allowed them to store their bigger ships in safe locations, away from fiery volcanoes. Then, they could use the boats to navigate through dangerous zones. You can load up a rowboat with important cargo and save pirates back-and-forth journeys to the treasure or their ship.

Randomly, rowboats appear all over the globe. A later update added the possibility of a rowboat to have a harpoon attached, which is certainly helpful, but it’s not nearly as nice as a cannon.

Clever Sea of ThievesThe rowboat has been used extensively in PvP. Players can gather in a rowboat, stealthily approaching other ships during the night. With a cannon, rowboats could be even more deadly. We’ll likely find out more about the other new tools coming to Sea of Thieves The next season 5 update will be available.
