Sea of Thieves players can now be the captains of their own ship
Sea of ThievesIt is an extremely cooperative game where players must work together to build their own pirate ship. The game’s newest update, Captaincy, is launching alongside season seven for the online sandbox. You can also play In Sea of ThievesPlayers keep the same stats, but don’t spend any upgrades. Instead, they use their plunder gold to buy cosmetic improvements. It’s nice to look like a pirate, but Captaincy updates take it a step further by allowing you to customize your ship, right from your captain’s quarters down to your nameplate.
Players can purchase one of each kind of ship — 250,000 gold pieces for a sloop, 375,000 gold pieces for a brigantine, and 500,000 gold pieces for a galleon. Once you buy a ship, you can name it, display the name on the crest, and customize your captain’s quarters. The Shipwright does not have to be consulted every session. Instead, Pirates can keep cosmetics on their ships. Your ship’s appearance will maintain itself between sessions — so you may have to pay the Shipwright a token fee to add a fresh coat of paint if you’ve been in battles.
Trinkets are a category of cosmetics that allows players to collect and leave trinkets. Of course, if you get into a sea battle, everything will get knocked around so you’ll have to go back and gently replace it. To make it easier on the oceans, captains may also be able to pick up cannonballs and planks at ports.
Captains can also pick up special Captain’s Voyages with varying lengths and mission objectives, which means players can plot out their own quests and choose the length of their voyages. Also, the Sovereign faction is only available to Captains. Sovereigns hang out right next to the dock to buy your loot, which saves precious minutes — especially if you’re pursued by Reaper players, who might want your Captain’s Log Book to sell to the Reaper’s Bones faction.
The seventh season also includes a new plunder card that allows you to collect rewards. Many small adjustments have been made, including new skins for your instruments and stools. These stools can be used anywhere and offer a great gameplay advantage. There’s also new emotes, and you can now purchase cosmetics from the Pirate Emporium shop.
On Aug. 4, the Captaincy update (and season seven) goes live and is available for all players.
