Scorn Emerges From The Dark For New Trailer

Ebb Software showed a new trailer for Scorn at today’s Xbox Games Showcase, and the first-person horror adventure continues to look just as disturbing as ever.

H.R. Giger, Scorn draws clear lines of inspiration from H.R. AlienIt is a place where biological and machine elements merge.

With more than just a touch of body horror, the trailer embraces these elements. There are many instances in the video of human appendages that have become disconnected and attached to other, nonhuman animals and creatures. In the few glimpses of the arms and other parts, the protagonist seems horribly disfigured.

Ebb has stated in the past that Scorn is aiming for a cohesive “lived-in” world, in which players are thrown in the deep-end by arriving and having to try and grasp what is even happening in the spaces they explore. According to Ebb, environments are maze-like. Each region is open for exploration and interconnected with others.

The developers are also touting the game’s focus on full-body awareness. Instead of items floating around the world or being picked up magically, each object in the game is real and must be lifted by your character. This will hopefully increase immersion. A greater degree of uncertainty is likely due to the topic.

The environment and creatures are impressive. However, I still have questions regarding the game’s mechanics. I’m eager to understand more about the nature of the puzzles and characters that are part of the surreal game world, but this latest trailer does little to illuminate either.

Scorn will soon be on Xbox Game Pass. However, it will also be on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.
