Saints Row Preview – Saints Row Character, Vehicle, And Weapon Customization Unveiled
I got to experience the expansive open space of Santo Ileso when the Saints Row remake was featured on our cover. It was a place I could freely explore, participate in story missions, or even complete side missions. The Criminal Ventures missions chains allowed me to expand my knowledge of the Saints. One area that I didn’t know about was the customization suite. This is an important part of Saints Row since the beginning. Although I had a few hints of information about customization in the past year, developer Volition kept my cards close to its chest. Today, however, that all changed as Volition hosted a presentation highlighting the fan-favorite feature.
Volition appears to be aware that character customization is the most important feature of this feature. You can adjust your hairstyles, face, and body as you like. You can equip your character with various hairstyles, even assigning different colors for the hair on your head (including rainbow hombre styles) and your face. Ears, skin color, and teeth also allow you to make things look as true-to-life or out-of-this-world as you’d like: Pointy elf ears; unrealistic skin colors, textures, glows, scars, suntans; patterned eyes; and candy corn teeth are all fair game. It’s possible to modify their facial musculature, adjust the age or make them look more symmetrical. You can even cover your genitals with Emojis. Volition even has a Shrek-inspired creation in the presentation.
Volition provides eight pre-made presets if you find all that overwhelming. After selecting one of these preset characters you have the option to either play with the template you’ve selected or make changes from it. This will allow you to customize your character faster.
The clothing of your character is customizable with colors, materials and accessories. You also have the option to choose underwear and socks. Complete outfits are also available, including cowboy outfits, golf attire, and a firefighter’s uniform. Layering clothing can be done in any way you like. You choose the shirt that you will wear underneath your chosen hoodie, and then you decide which jacket you’ll put on top of it. You can also create outfit presets at your headquarters later on if you wish to. The only thing that is not enough for you are clothing, tattoos and prosthetics. You also have the option to equip emotes so you can give off the mood you desire. Choose from 8 different voices.
Vehicle customization is limited to your personal character. Saints Row offers more than 80 vehicles to collect. When you add a vehicle into your garage you have the option to customize it by adding body kits and neon underglow as well as rims and spoilers. Each vehicle comes with preset options that will help you move as quickly as possible, just like your character. Volition says it best to create a “Boss worthy masterpiece” as Volition describes it in today’s video. For those who want to go faster, you can get nitrous booster, ejector seat, offroad kits, jump capability, and/or tow cables. A hoverboard is an option if everything fails.
You can create your own custom weaponry once you have arrived on the scene. To make the weapon yours, you can change or modify individual pieces or apply decals. It’s possible to swap the whole body out, for example by putting your rocket launcher into a guitar case and your rifle in an umbrella. These options ensure your enemies know who’s shooting at them beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Saints Row gave me only a small glimpse into how you could personalize the Saints Row and their home base. These elements are intriguing but I was unable to play with them. I was only able to see a glimpse of the end game. Your gang can change the location of your abandoned church as they gain power. The video shows two customized churches. One looks more like a nightclub and the other looks more like a garage that houses a bar. It’s possible to swap mementos and statues or arrange your decor however you like.

Are candy corn teeth possible? Yes, it’s possible.
Saints Row will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 4 as well as PC, Xbox One, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, August 23. Volition said that you will have the ability to design your character in the final presentation. Although no further details were provided, the team suggested you stay tuned to the studio’s social networks for updates.
