Rogue Legacy 2 Arrives on Xbox April 28

Summary

  • We’re announcing the official launch day for Rogue Legacy 2
  • Here’s a quick look back on the origins of this project and what it was like to get there.

It’s crazy to think that after nearly four years of development, Rogue Legacy 2Finally, it is done!  It is our largest ever game, which is exciting and nerve-wracking for everyone.  As much care and love went into this game as we did the actual construction. Rogue Legacy 2We did everything we could to make the fans feel it, so we are hoping they will be able to experience the game when they play on April 28th.

If you’re not familiar with the series, Rogue Legacy 2It’s a genetic rogue-lite, where you can fall every chance your kids get.  Perhaps your child is a colourblind chef who loves throwing projectiles at their enemies from the frying pan.  Or maybe they’re a katana-wielding ronin who sparkles because they’re also a vampire. Or maybe they’re a vegan who dies if they eat meat (our game tries to be 100% scientifically accurate).

It’s also a tough game that does not pull its punches.  The kingdom’s layout changes every run, so your hero may die.  But don’t worry, because every run earns you some form of incremental progress, either through the discovery of permanent power-ups on your journey or by spending your hard-earned gold.  Your Manor can be expanded with incredible extensions that give your heirs greater abilities or unlock special features with souls of fallen. You may also just relax on the Docks while listening to the stories told by those who meet you along the way.

It’s a massive world where you are always growing, learning, and discovering something new with each run.

In reality, RL2’s beginnings happened well before the project was ever announced.  We began to brainstorm ideas for the sequel shortly after the development of the original finished eight years ago.  It wasn’t going to be made right away, but we knew it would eventually happen.  Many ideas, such as more varied biomes, an extensive system for New Game Plus, to increase replayability and character with their unique weapons and capabilities, were already thought up.  We were even willing to embrace the 2.5D style of art.  We still had a lot to do and say with this franchise, despite the long hours of production.

Following a lengthy hiatus, Rogue LegacyThese ideas were rediscovered and we began discussing the other features we desired in the sequel.  Because we shared a common principle, it was quite a challenge. Rogue Legacy 2The original had to stand for itself.  The original had to be maintained, while paradoxically it also required that the new one was different.  We couldn’t just go bigger and better, we had to be new and exciting.  This precept inspired the creation of products such as the Soul Shop and Curio Shoppe. These items were carefully designed to enhance the already-remarkable formula.

Even we were surprised by how much more we wanted. Rogue Legacy universe.  It’s taken nearly twice as long as we originally intended, but that just makes us even prouder of the final product.  Looking back Rogue Legacy 1It feels as if it were a moment in time. However, the sequel can feel like an entire performance.  There’s just so much to see and do and discover, and we really hope it resonates with gamers new and old.  This is why we went to great lengths to make it happen. Rogue Legacy 2It is the epitome of a great experience.  We now have to ask ourselves, “What are we going doing for the third?”
