Rockstar hit with unprecedented Grand Theft Auto 6 leak

Over 90 video clips of in-development were leaked, in an extraordinary leak Grand Theft Auto 6.The videos were discovered online. These videos were posted online by the leaker under the username teapotuberhacker. They claimed to have accessed them directly from Rockstar’s internal Slack.

These videos include robberies and gunplay as well as open-world driving. They also show full-voice acting in conversations. The footage appears to confirm a recent report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier that the game would be set in a fictionalized Miami — possible the Vice City of GTA lore — and feature a playable female character. While the game is still in its development phase, there are many features that can be used.

Right from the start there was little doubt over the authenticity of the videos — they were of a scale and detail that would be next to impossible to fake. Schreier followed. wrote on Twitter that Rockstar sources had confirmed to him that the leak of “early and unfinished” footage was real, and said the scenario was a “nightmare” for Rockstar.

At time of writing, the videos are still available to download from links in the original post on GTA Forums, although Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive has started to issue copyright claims against videos on YouTube and social media networks in order to remove them from view. The videos have been so widely distributed already that Take-Two’s lawyers may be fighting a losing battle in trying to scrub them from the internet.

The footage totals approximately 50 minutes. Some clips are quite short. A longer video, around three minutes, features the female character as a robber in a diner. She threatens staff members and customers with a gun, which causes them to fear for their safety. After a fight with police, she and her male accomplice jump in the patrol car of police and drive off. While the graphic treatment seems very real, it is still in line with GTA house style.

In some clips, you can view the words Vice City. The female and male player characters look poorly dressed, suggesting the tale will at least start at a different end of the socio-economic spectrum than 2002’s glitzy Grand Theft Auto Vice City. One moment, the female character is seen entering a club with dense people. Other videos showcase shooting methods and communication systems.

The leaker said it was “possible” they would release source code of GTA 5 and GTA 6, and even a test build of GTA 6. They answered questions about the source code and shared legal sensitive information regarding a court case involving cheat mods. GTA Online.

This is a very damaging leak that Rockstar has never seen before, even if it doesn’t happen. Rockstar confirmed this earlier in the year. GTA 6 was in “active development.” The Bloomberg report claimed work on the game had begun in 2014, after GTA 5’s release, but that progress was slow and GTA 6Release of the game was likely not to occur before 2024. Rockstar’s company culture has changed, according to Rockstar. This reduced overtime and made the game more approachable to marginalized people.
