Quakecon 2022 Will Be A Digital Event For Third Straight Year

Since a few years, the COVID-19 epidemic has been wreaking havoc at in-person events. Despite the fact that infection rates have declined in recent months many businesses continue to be cautious when organizing public events, and Quakecon is just one example. The show’s organizers have announced that for the third year in a row, Quakecon 2022 will be a digital-only event.

Please see the following: post to Twitter, the organizers revealed that Quakecon will take place August 18-20 with more details to come in June. According to them, it proved difficult for organizers to make a concert in the amount of time needed due to uncertainty about large gatherings. Quakecon is expected to return to the in-person form in 2023. The complete statement can be found below.

QuakeCon 2020 will again be digital-only, on August 18-20 2022.

As you are, we regret not returning to Dallas this year. A large event like this requires months of planning. In this instance, there was too much uncertainty for us to be able to execute an in-person QuakeCon.

QuakeCon is hard at work putting together new streaming programs, online meetups and giveaways. We will also announce details about the virtual BYOC in June.

Our full festival will be back in 2023. We are already excited to see old friends and to have a huge BYOC filled with all your custom PC creations and our insane contests.

We look forward to seeing you both online and in-person this August.

Quakecon was a digital event in 2020 and 2021, with last year’s show being free to attend. This news isn’t far removed from E3 2022’s outright cancellation last month due to similar concerns, though this month’s PAX East has committed to being a physical convention. Everyone has their own level of comfort in dealing with the pandemic. While the situation is improving, it’s likely that we won’t see the entire event back from 2023 or beyond.
