PS5 gets temporary price cut in UK, Europe, coming soon to US

Sony has temporarily reduced the price of its PlayStation 5 console in India, the U.K. and Ireland. It also offers discounts in Germany, Austria and Germany. This appears to be a sign that Sony will soon offer a temporary reduction in price in the U.S.

You can find the U.K. Ireland, Sony is knocking £75 off the price of the PS5, bringing it down to £404.99 through Aug. 10; in Germany and Austria, Sony is offering a €75 discount, bringing the price down to €474.99 until Aug. 7.

These deals are in line with the promotional pricing announced by Dealabs at the beginning of this month. Dealabs reported that Sony would soon be offering a $50 off the regular PS5, dropping the price to $449.99, down from $499.99. According to reports, this price drop is only temporary in the U.S. and will be similar to other promotional offers around the world. The PS5 Digital Edition doesn’t appear to get a discount.

It is possible that the promotion indicates that Sony needs to move some PS5s. That would lend weight to reports that Sony plans to introduce a low-cost console that has a disc-drive that can be detached. The model should be arriving by September.

Sony revealed on Thursday that the company has sold over 40 million PS5 systems since 2020, when it launched. The PS5 is slightly slower than the PlayStation 4 which reached 40 million units in 30 months, as opposed to the PS5’s 32-month sales pace.

Sony offers a sort of discount on the PS5 standard thanks to a package that includes God of War RagnarökWith the console.

In November 2020, the PlayStation 5 was launched in America at two different price points. $499.99, for the PS5 Digital Edition with no Blu-ray Drive, or $399.99, for the PS5 Standard Edition. Sony raised the prices of the PS5 in August 2022 across multiple regions, including Europe and the U.K. The U.S. customers were not affected by the price increase, as Jim Ryan, the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment and the CEO at that time, blamed the high inflation rates in the world and the adverse currency trend.
