Pope Francis listened to the Undertale song, Megalovania
Six days remain before 2022’s first day and things are already looking dazzling. Thanks to a flamboyant circus troupe, we can now say with complete certainty that Pope Francis himself has listened to “Megalovania,” the iconic track from Toby Fox’s hit game, Untertale.
This happened during a papal audience that took place on Wednesday. It is an event at which the pope greets members of the public to bless them and will also be held regularly. One of the events featured a circus group performing as entertainment, and their band singing the song. Ultima, a Twitter user posted the recording and it went viral. You can see it below.
It is legal. The performance can be viewed on the Vatican’s official news site. It is very clown-like. A person wearing a flame-encrusted leotard twirled the cylinder around on his feet while others juggled or bounced balls. One funny moment is when a juggler drops a ball. Following the end of the song, the pope thanks all the performers and states that beauty is what guides us to God.
UntertaleThere is a variety of endings, depending on how many monsters are killed. Ironically enough, “Megalovania” is the theme played during a boss fight with the skeleton Sans, after a player does what’s called the Genocidal Route after murdering too many characters.
Why choose to perform “Megalovania”? While we don’t know why this specific group picked it, the chiptune-esque “Megalovania” is one of the most well-known tracks from Untertale. With over 105 million listens on Spotify alone, the song isn’t just popular, it’s also a meme, and has been remixed and reused in countless contexts online.
This isn’t even the first time that the pope has been exposed to Undertale. A copy of was given by MatPat, a YouTuber and gaming personality. UntertaleThe pope as an offer of a gift. Maybe it’s time His Holiness takes the hint and takes a stab at the pacifist run!
