Pokémon Scarlet and Violet players are hunting the rare Dudunsparce

Forget legendary Pokémon. Forget super rare shiny Pokémon. This is the newest prized possession Pokémon ScarletAnd VioletPlayers can aim for the rare, but extremely stupid, Dudunsparce three-segment Dudunsparce.

Dudunsparce’s appeal can be understood by looking at its original evolution Dunsparce. Dunsparce is a common normal-type Pokémon introduced in Pokémon SilverAnd Gold. The design is reminiscent of a larvae/pupae, with only a stinger as an appendage. For the longest time, it didn’t have a big evolution, but fans used to joke about wanting a badass evolution for the goofy-looking character. Similar to the transformation of Magikarp into Gyarados, a formidable dragon-like monster.

Dunsparce was finally released 23 years later. Pokémon ScarletAnd Violet: Dudunsparce.

This evolution is a joke. Dudunsparce looks almost identical to its little evolution, except it’s longer and has some extra thorax segments. It’s extremely lanky and large, and it basically seems like the long Furby version of Dunsparce. Some fans were upset over the lack of changes in the big evolution, but I think it’s the perfect gag for a stupid Pokémon like Dunsparce. It’s so awful, please enjoy it.

Dudunsparce is available in two versions: one that can be divided into two segments and another version that can be divided into three. One of the above-pictured Dudunsparces is the two segment one. Every Dudunsparce comes with a tail and a head, making the total five-piece three-segment Dudunsparce a staggering five. It’s an absolute unit.

Problem is that the Dudunsparce, which is extra long, is quite rare. Players have started documenting their hunts for this mythical creature. I did see a video of a person catching a three-segment Dudunsparce in the wild, but it’s unclear how often it spawns. That means if you really want one, you’re left to hatching Dunsparce eggs and evolving them — like this person did.

Initial estimates were that one in 25 Dunsparces would become a three-segment Dudunsparce. It turned out to be much more rare than that. It’s actually a one in 100 chance, according to Serebii. The extra-long one can require a lot of effort.

These are the steps that players must go through in order to obtain this long boy. According to Serebii, it takes Dunsparce 5,120 steps for them to hatch. You will then need to evolve every Dunsparce between levels 1 and 32. These steps were repeated by Tiktoker 88 times. It was a labor of love to hunt the Dudunsparce three-segment Dudunsparce.

Although some trainers do their best to reach their Dudunsparce goals diligently, others are simply lucky. The shiny Dunsparce of this person led to the longer Dudunsparce.

The typical odds of running into a shiny Pokémon are one in 4,096, while the odds of evolving a three-segment Dundunsparce are one in a 100. That makes the shiny three-segment Dudunsparce one of the rarest, if not the rarest, Pokémon in Paldea. It’s on a level of rarity that’s comparable to the shiny authentic Sinistea from Pokémon Sword And Shield.

And while we all can’t be that fortunate, I wish everyone luck on their hunt for the extra-awful Dudunsparce.
