Pokémon Go ‘Spooky Cipher’ research tasks, rewards

“Spooky Cipher”Research tasks were a surprising addition to the Go Tour Hoenn event Pokémon GoIn February 2023.

The four tasks are more challenging than normal because they hide the difficulties involved.

You’ll then encounter a Pokémon as a reward, which as per other research tasks in Pokémon GoIt is also mysterious from the beginning.

This page will explain the Spooky Cipher tasks as well as their encounters.

Spooky Cipher rewards and tasks

You have four Spooky Cipher research assignments to complete. Although most letters have been hidden, it is possible to determine the need by matching what letters are visible and how long they are with this list.

• Evolve a Nincada – Shedinja encounter
• Get 3 great Curveball Throws in one row – Sableye encounter
• Transfer 5 Pokémon – Shuppet encounter
• Use 5 Berries to help catch Pokémon – Duskull encounter

As shown, all four Spooky Cipher research tasks reward you with an Ghost-type Pokémon encounter.

These are the only way to catch these Pokemon during the Go Tour Hoenn event weekend — though since they are not subject to any particular Collection Challenge requirements, consider them an optional extra as you play.

Other challenges during Go Tour Hoenn includes “Chasing Legends” (free for all players), Spooky Cipher research quests and Masterwork: “Wish Granted” (premium quest from the shop).

Latios/Latias as Primal Kyogre or Groudon can also be encountered, as well the regionals Tropius, Torkoal and Relicanth.
