PlayStation Stars, Sony’s New Loyalty Program, Is Now Live In North And South America

Sony’s new loyalty program for gaming, PlayStation Stars was announced back in July. The service is currently available in North America and South America. PlayStation users can sign up for the free program, but there’s one big caveat.

PlayStation Stars allows players to earn points and digital collectibles by completing “campaigns,” which range from completing small objectives while playing games to larger monthly challenges. Any PlayStation player can join Stars; you don’t need a Plus subscription.

Your Star Status is a four-ranking leveling system that can be earned by completing campaigns. Everybody starts at Level 1. But, by purchasing PSN games and achieving a certain amount of trophy rarities, you can raise your level which increases the quality of the rewards.

Sony confirms that digital rewards cannot be resold and are not NFTs. These include model PlayStation consoles from old games and first-party characters. Points can be used to buy DLC and funds in your digital store wallet. After earning points, they remain valid for 24 months.

If you’re running to sign up now, there’s already a waitlist to join PS Stars. Sony states that new users will have to wait about two months after the date they register to be accepted into the program. It’s unclear why this is the case, but one could assume Sony doesn’t want to be flooded with too many memberships at once as it gradually gets the program off the ground.

PlayStation Stars launches in Europe, Australia and New Zealand on October 13th. You can find out more information about the program on its official website here.
