Playdead Releases New Image Seemingly From Game 3, The Studio’s Untitled Game In Development
Playdead appears to have unveiled a new image for its third in-development game. The title Game 3 is the one it uses, as there’s no formal title.
Playdead has been one of the most fascinating developers in video games. This is due in large part to the mysteries surrounding their games. It isn’t a very public studio, opting to tease out an image here or there rather than a full blog post with trailers and more like many others in the industry. And it’s seemingly not beholden to any kind of timelines…because the studio just releases games when it wants to, and it works – both Limbo and Inside reviewed really well, especially here at Game Informer.
Playdead’s third in-development game still retains the same mystique. This is the latest Game 3 look. tweetAdvertising jobs are available in Copenhagen at this studio.
Arnt Jensen, a game designer and founder of Playdead was born 15 years ago! Each of LIMBO, INSIDE and INSIDE took six years. GAME 3 is our latest ambitious project. Get in touch if you are a game designer, like our work, and would love to be able to call home in beautiful Copenhagen!

The image appears to be from Game 3:

As you can see above, the tweet is quite innocuous – one part a celebration of Playdead’s 15th birthday and another part a link to jobs that are open there. The tweet also includes a reference to the amount of time Playdead takes to create games. Limbo was the first of its titles. Inside took six. Inside released in 2016 which suggests that Playdead will continue its tradition of releasing Game 3 every year. Perhaps that’s why the tweet mentions Game 3 and includes a new image from it. As for what this image is, though, that’s anybody’s guess.
This could be a screenshot taken from the game. However, it also could be concept art. On that same note, Playdead’s art style resembles that of concept art, so it’s hard to even tell the difference between the two in relation to Playdead’s other titles. Regardless, we’re excited.
The image shows what looks like an astronaut coming across an old, frozen-over vehicle. It appears that the vehicle is under either a huge concrete structure or a gigantic rocket ship. The cylinders to the left look almost like rocket boosters. An interesting fact to observe is the way that the astronaut walks forward in what looks like a 3D space. Inside and Limbo required players to move in 2D spaces. Game 3 may have made the leap to 3D exploration and movement.
