Platinum Games’ Vertical Shoot ‘Em Up, Sol Cresta, Delayed

Platinum Games’ vertical shoot ‘em up, Sol Cresta, It is a revival of a series more than 30 year oldThis has been delayed.

This news comes by way of Platinum Games’ “Sol Cresta: Hideki Kamiya’s Very Sorry Stream,” which aired today, as reported by Eurogamer. The stream featured new gameplay of Sol Cresta, but Platinum’s chief game designer, Kamiya, also revealed that it would miss its December release date.

Kamiya stated that he doesn’t have any new release dates yet but hopes to make it public in the early part of next year.

Sol Cresta was first announced in April as the successor to Terra Cresta and Moon Cresta. These arcade-style vertical-scrolling games were originally created by Nichibutsu. Sol Cresta will be a continuation of the previous Cresta games. It will have spaceships that fly through galaxies and take out enemy ships in a classic arcade vertical-shooter style. You can also dock with friends, as in the classic games of nearly 40 years past.

The time was Sol Cresta’s announcement back in August, Kamiya said “we want to make all kinds of games…not just action games.” Platinum Games is perhaps best known for what it does on the action side of gaming – Nier Automata, Astral Chain, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, to name a few – but it seems the studio is using Sol Cresta to prove it can do vertical shooters, too.

As noted by Eurogamer, Kamiya’s stream featured gameplay of Sol Cresta’s new Caravan Mode, which is a five-minute score attack mode. Kamiya debuted the opening scene, as well.

Sol Cresta was initially set to release on PlayStation 3, Nintendo Switch and PC on Dec 9, 2018, but has been delayed until an unknown date.

When Sol Cresta is released, will you be there? We’d love to hear from you in the comments!
