Phil Spencer Addresses Massive Xbox Leak In New Statement

Microsoft and Xbox documents have been leaked this morning. They include emails, development plans, internal information, and much more. This morning, we found out that Xbox Head Phil Spencer was considering acquiring Nintendo and Warner Bros. Games. Xbox also plans to refresh its Xbox Series X/S next year. It may even be planning remasters of Fallout 3 & The Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion. Microsoft is working on a hybrid next-gen console for 2028.

We learned that there were a lot of leaks after a bit of confusion on the internet. BloombergMicrosoft provided confidential documents to federal courts (that were not redacted). Following news of these leaks, Spencer has now addressed what’s happened with a brief statement on Twitter.

“We’ve seen the conversation around old emails and documents,” Spencer writes. The work of our team is shared this way, but so much has happened and there is so much that excites us now and into the future. When we’re ready, we will reveal the full plans.

This was tweeted by him, but The VergeThe Associated Press has obtained an in-depth message sent to Xbox’s employees. It is here in its entirety:

“Team

Today, several documents that were submitted to the court in connection with our acquisition proposal of Activision Blizzard accidentally leaked. This is a disappointment, but I understand that many documents were created over a decade ago and we have changed our plans.

“I also know we all take the confidentiality of our plans and our partners’ information very seriously. This leak is a clear indication that we have not met our expectations. The incident will be a lesson for us and we’ll do better in the future. This is not the way we would like to share our hard work with others. We’re excited to share more with you, but there is so much else we want to tell our players.

“To conclude, I want to thank all of you who work so hard at Team Xbox in order to amaze and delight our users. Let’s focus on the things we can influence in the weeks and months ahead: the continued success of Starfield and the launch of Forza Motorsport. Phil”

Spencer’s statement on Twitter and in the memo he sent to Xbox staff, stating that the leaked emails and documents are outdated and that plans have been revised, should be noted, particularly by those who were excited to hear about the leakage. He also says the team will share “the real plans” when ready. It’s obvious that he can’t claim the leaks are what is happening, and as such must minimize it. But it also serves to remind us to treat everything with caution, since it’s likely plans have already changed.
