Peacemaker trailer: HBO Max’s Suicide Squad show looks demented
James Gunn’s Suicide Squad is a movie full of jerks, but one jerk reigns supreme: John Cena’s Peacemaker, the no-nonsense Mack truck of a man with a ridiculous outfit and an absurdly large gun (and guns, if you know what I mean). He’s also the star of the first TV series to spin out of a live-action DC film, HBO Max’s forthcoming Peacemaker.
First trailer: Peacemaker is seen waking up to find a team of agents to help him take down bad guys. That’s pretty much the setup — and from there, complete mayhem. Sights in the trailer include Peacemaker and his new bud Vigilante blasting away bottles near their nether-regions, a discussion of a “butt baby,” and a moment where our antihero gets a hug from a bald eagle.
During the FanDome panel, producer Matt Miller described it as “like The OfficeBut as a super hero show.”
“More people are being shot in their faces than before. The Office,” Gunn added.
Written entirely by James Gunn, with five of the season’s eight episodes also directed by him, Peacemaker is both a sequel and a prequel to last summer’s Suicide Squad. The show promises to delve into its antihero’s past while also showing what he gets into following the film. Gunn is joining Gunn’s team as a director. Eastbound and down’s Jody Hill.
Peacemaker’s eight-episode first season will premiere Jan. 16, 2022 on HBO Max.
