Our Most Anticipated Horror Games Of 2022

Is it because October is the month with all the excitement? We’re in the mood for a good scare almost any day of the year. This is why we have compiled the list of top horror games for 2022. In Order of chronological releases. And since anticipation is a crucial element to horror, the more you look forward to these fright fests, the scarier they’ll be, right? … Boo!

Atomic Heart

Release: 2022 – Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Atomic Heart must be seen in action to fully appreciate the wonder of this open-world adventure/RPG. The game looks almost like an art installation with stunning scenery and bizarre mutants. Set in an alternate reality, during the “high noon of the Soviet Union,” you must mop up a mess created from a catastrophic event originating from a secret government facility. You will need to take out some of the monsters.

The Callisto Protocol

Release: 2022 – Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC

The Callisto Protocol is being developed by Striking Distance Studios, which was founded by Glen Schofield and is staffed by several ex-members of Visceral Games which worked on EA’s Dead Space. The Callisto Protocol will be a spiritual sequel to the sci-fi horror classic. Interestingly, the title is also set in a far-flung version of the PUBG universe and revolves around an alien invasion at a prison colony on Jupiter’s moon Callisto. Sadly, we don’t know much more about the project at this point, but you had us at “spiritual successor to Dead Sp” – you didn’t even have to finish the sentence.

Choo-Choo Char

Release: 2022 – Platform: PC

If a spider and Thomas the Train had Rosemary’s baby, it might look something like Choo-Choo Charles. This open-world adventure game lets you travel a foggy island on an old train. As you complete missions and find scrap, you upgrade your train’s speed, armor, and the damage of its mounted machine gun. What is the purpose of the machine gun mounted on the train’s body? That’s because an arachnid-like train monster is hunting you the entire time, and you don’t have a boot big enough to squash it.

Dead Space (2022).

Release: 2022 – Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC

Since the release of Dead Space 3 in 2013, EA’s iconic sci-fi horror series seemed like a … ehem … Dead franchise. EA’s Motive Studio announced last year that they were working to remake the original 2008 game. This new game maintains the same concept. 26-year old engineer Isaac Clarke goes to a abandoned mine vessel to search for missing crew members, but discovers that their bodies have been transformed into horrifying monstrosities. Motive says it’s willing to take some liberties with this remake. For example, Isaac won’t be a silent protagonist as in the original release, and we hope his screams drown out our own.

Evil Dead: The Game

Release: February – Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Grab your boomstick and some friends and get ready to battle hordes of undead monsters – excuse us – evil dead monsters. The game features a mixture of PVP multiplayer and co-op action. Teams of survivors will work together to find and steal supplies and to close the gap between our worlds and those of evil monsters. It’s possible to take part in familiar roles such as Ash and Scotty as well as Lord Arthur, Kelly Maxwell, Pablo Simon Bolivar, and Kelly Maxwell. Many of the original actors, such as Bruce Campbell, are returning to the role. Heal the King

Ghostwire: Tokyo

Release: 2022 – Platform: PlayStation 5, PC

Tango Gameworks is most well-known for The Evil Within which Resident Evil creator Shinji Miami directed. While Ghostwire: Tokyo takes inspiration from a few other places, this first-person adventure doesn’t look any less terrifying. After nearly all of Tokyo’s citizens mysteriously vanished, a group of otherworldly spirits take up residence. Play as Akito, a young man who gains supernatural powers that allow him to communicate with the mystical realm. Using a series of Kuji-kiri-inspired hand gestures, Akito can cast spells that send Tokyo’s new inhabitants packing.

The Outlast Trials

Release: 2022 – Platform: PC

In 2013, Red Barrels came out guns blazing with its debut title Outlast, which took inspiration from survival horror titles like Amnesia: The Dark Descent and told a tale about a freelance journalist’s investigation into a derelict psychiatric hospital. This spin-off takes a nod from episodic television series to further explore the franchises’ lore, centering on the test subjects who took part in a mysterious Cold War experiment. Spoiler alert: we’re guessing these experiments went horribly wrong.

Martha is dead

Release: February 24th – Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Martha is Dead, a psychological thriller set in Italy in 1944 is told in first person. It explores war’s tragedies and blurs the line between reality and belief. This ghost story looks visually stunning thanks to developer LKA Games’ use of advanced photogrammetry techniques. Your role is that of a young lady dealing with tragic events. She explores the darker truth behind folklore to find answers. We don’t want to worry you, but based on the title, it sounds like things don’t work out for Martha.

Sons of the Forest

Release: May 20 – Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Endnight Games published a 2014 survival horror game, The Forest. It saw players battle cannibalistic body horrors in a forested environment. This year, the studio plans to release a sequel that will have players gathering more supplies, building shelters, and hunting for their next meal while trying not to become someone else’s. We don’t have a ton of details otherwise, but based on trailers, horror fans should strap in before venturing into these warry woods and its monster-filled network of caves.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Release: 2022 – Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

Vampires suck! But that’s why we love them. Hardsuit Labs’ long-awaited sequel to the cult 2004 RPG follows a brand-new vampire as they navigate a version of Seattle where werewolves, demons, and other monsters of the night have helped shape human society. You can create your own vampire or join one of the many competing vampire clans. Throughout the adventure, you’ll also acquire and upgrade a variety of unnatural abilities such as levitation, bat summoning, and the ability to transform into mist.

It’s only the beginning of 2019, and some of these great projects may soon be released.
