Oscars 2023 nominations snub Riddler, award Joker, expand Marvel universe

On Tuesday morning, many great films, actors, and crafts teams were nominated for Oscars that’ll be handed out at the 2023 Academy Awards in March. For those who are focused solely on the Marvel and DC film universes’ ups and downs: Penguin and The Joker won huge, while The Riddler was left behind at Arkham Asylum. Hela has risen to Asgard’s top, but Ying Nan offers stiff competition. Robotman, Ramonda and Queen of Wakanda might get their dues.

Weirdly, this year’s Oscar nominees stand as a testament to just how deeply comic book movie culture has entrenched itself in movie culture. These are hilarious observations.

Here’s the math: Batman’s Riddler was played by Paul Dano, and Michelle Williams got her moment as Lady Venom in the original 2018 Venom.
