Operation Wolf, the arcade classic, comes back in July for PC and PS5
Operation Wolf is coming back, this summer, to PC virtual reality platforms and PlayStation VR, and all I can say is, well it’s about damn time?!
Very few games have the right to be called “arcade legend,” especially among rail shooters, but Taito’s Operation Wolf It is an arcade classic. First appearing in bowling and pizza parlors as a simple light-gun, the game’s controller was made of a Delta Force-The class Uzi is mounted on a rotating swivel. The following in-home console adaptations of the wildly popular, Reagan-’80s, kill-’em-all-let-God-sort-’em-out Schwarzenegger shooter always seemed to lack something.
In a virtual-reality setup, yes. OK, Now, you’re talking. VR has been criticized as being nothing more than an overdressed version of rail shooters. So why are we still waiting for this? Operation Wolf Returns First Mission Comes back on July 13, via Steam, for PCs with Pico 4 and Meta Quest enabled and PlayStation VR 2! Microids, the publisher and Virtuallyz Gaming are the developers.
There are six story/campaign levels (like in the original), and a Survival/Horde Mode for players who want non-stop action. Players can switch from the SMG to shotguns, sidearms with large bores, and grenade launches. I’ll take it, but also add a bowl of chili cheese chips and a drink to my order.
Microids has announced that a non-VR version will be released this fall for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. It will also be compatible with Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
