Obi-Wan TV series delayed, will premiere with first 2 episodes

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Disney Plus debut is happening a little later than intended. Disney has announced that the series will premiere May 27th, two days later than its original release date. Disney revealed on Thursday that it will now premiere the series May 27, two days after its original release date. This should compensate for the wait of two days.

Ewan McGregor, Obi-Wan’s creator and spokesperson for the show, made the announcement. Ewan thanked the fans first for the response to the trailer. Then he shared with everyone the good and bad news regarding the delay and an extra episode.

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s new schedule also has a larger impact on Disney Plus’ larger programming schedule. The series will now overlap with Marvel’s Ms. Marvel series for one fewer week, since it’s releasing two episodes at once. Ms. MarvelIt will debut June 8th, while Obi-Wan’s run should now end around June 22 — as long as everything stays on schedule.

One thing that this release schedule doesn’t quite make clear is whether or not future episodes will also release on Fridays. Disney Plus shows previously released episodes mostly on Fridays, but more recently switched to Wednesday Premieres — likely to keep fans from having to choose between seeing the new Marvel or Star Wars movie on a Friday night, or watching the new Marvel or Star Wars TV show. It’s unclear Disney is moving back to Fridays or if this is just a one-off change.

It’s also possible that Obi-Wan Kenobi Could keep Fridays as a weekend Ms. Marvel covers the streaming service’s Wednesday releases, but we’ll have to wait for more details from Disney to know for sure.
