NYCC: New Strangers trilogy will start as remake but continue the story

This creepy horror film is about a home invasion. StrangersSince its 2008 release, it has been a sort of cult favorite. The series was followed up in 2018. Strangers: Night PreyIt never really spawned a franchise as you would expect of a horror hit. But director Renny Harlin (Die Hard 2, The Beginning of ExorcistLionsgate is here to correct that by releasing a new trilogy of Strangers films inspired by the originals.

Harlin revealed new information about the three movies at a New York Comic Con panel in 2023, where he showed some early and frightening footage.

While we don’t know the full story of the trilogy, Lionsgate does have a description for the first chapter:

Madelaine Petsch (TV’s Riverdale) stars as a young woman starting a new life with her fiancé. They are suddenly attacked by a mysterious group of strangers in disguise during their stop at a vacation rental located in the forest.

It’s a premise that should be instantly recognizable to fans of the original movie or its sequel, but what’s even more interesting is how this movie was made.

Harlin explained in an interview to Bloody-Disgusting that Alan R. Cohen wrote the script.King of the HillAlan FreedlandKing of the HillIt was originally 280 page and he wanted to split it up into three movies. Harlin claims that the first is a faithful remake of original Strangers Movie (with similar masks updated for 2023) but, where the original film ends with everyone driving away just like that, the new three-part trilogy will continue the story.

According to Harlin, the second and third films will continue to follow Petsch’s character as we see her try to continue her life after the acts of senseless violence in the first movie, and what that does to her as a person.

This new trilogy has a lot of surprises and excitement. All three films are already filmed. Harlin worked on them back-to-back-to-back, and Lionsgate plans to release all three in 2024.

This is the first in a series of films. Strangers Chapter 1., doesn’t have a release date yet, but the first footage from the movie was shown during the series’ New York Comic Con panel, which means it should be released sometime in the near future. Petsch was also present. Chap. 1Gabriel Basso will also be featured (Super 8Rachel ShentonAll Creatures Great & SmallRichard BrakeBarbarian).
