Not-E3 flooded us with game trailers — here are the coolest-looking games
It’s not E3 week — it’s better. It’s fake E3. Although the Electronic Entertainment Experience (what E3 stands for, as of 2021) didn’t formally happen this year, indie games still found their way to shine this week. We could do a direct of all the directs. We’re done with that joke. Let us now get to the boring language.
We have lots of Es and more in Cool WIP, Polygon’s weekly roundup of eye-catching clips and screenshots of works in progress. Every week, Polygon’s staff searches the Internet for new and exciting games to show you a selection of their most recent projects.
This week, we’re doing something a little fun. We picked five indie streams from the past week — Wholesome Games, Day of the Devs, Future of Play, Guerrilla Collective, and the PC Gaming Show — and pulled a few games from each to highlight. I did the math and there’s, like, over 200 games included between the five. So let’s get to it.

Wholesome Games’ humble origins lead to its mega-popularity. Twitter accountIt highlights adorable, comfortable, and beautiful games. Since then, it’s grown into a bona fide brand within the gaming sphere. The showcase shared over 90 games, and while what “wholesome” means can be hard to pin down — it’s one of those terms that iykyk — it’s become a vehicle to show off some of the most dazzling work in the game development pipeline. Somehow, the best thing about Future of Play isn’t the fact that it’s hosted by a Vtuber. Glitch is a game ecosystem that puts on the direct. It offers a wide variety of shows. This stream showed indie games and featured an original performance from Alex Moukala, funk musician extraordinaire. PackingRead funny game reviews. The rhythm game is one of the highlights Infinite guitarsMonster-taming games like. Creature KeeperAnd the queer romantic rom-com, visual novel Pen pal Princess.

Guerrilla Collective showcases new games every other week and this year featured many promising titles. We liked what we saw. Witch Strandings, a new “strand” game from the makers of Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator. There’s also a snowboarding game called SlopecrashersPlay as wily animals in the Animes and Frog Platformer. Frogun.

PC Gamer displayed dozens upon titles during the livestream of PC Gaming Show. There were many amazing games by smaller teams, as well as one from a group modder. Polygon rounded up some of the coolest looking games, which included Necrosoft Games’ tactics game, DemonschoolBusiness management, NivalisMore. Day of the Devs presented a fantastic array of indie titles after the Summer Game Fest presentations. The titles were truly stand-out and we highly recommend watching if you’re fond of visually and mechanically interesting games. There was also a video game called “The Game of the Year”. The Time FliesThe flight simulator s lets you pilot a lonely little fly. Trailers were also shown at the showcase for a cute and unbearable game called Bear & BreakfastThis is a stunningly beautiful game that features a water nymph. Naiad.
