Nintendo Switch Surpasses 132 Million Units Sold Alongside Great Tears Of The Kingdom, Pikmin 4 Results

Switch is getting closer and closer to becoming Nintendo’s best-selling product ever. The Switch has now sold more than 132,000,000 unit. This was due to the great sales of new software for first-party titles released in this year, such as The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom or Pikmin 4

The news is from Nintendo’s second quarter results for fiscal year 2024, ending September 30. The Switch is now officially at 132.46 millions units, bringing it close to Nintendo’s top-selling hardware — the Nintendo DS, which sold 154.02million units. PlayStation 2 has sold 158 millions units, the only console that is higher than the DS.

If a new console does not end the sales, it’s likely that the Switch will reach the DS numbers. Nintendo has said that its Switch console is only halfway through it’s lifecycle. This suggests the company plans to continue supporting it even after a new-gen console comes out.

Nintendo’s financial report reveals also that Tears of the Kingdom reached 19.6 million units, while Pikmin 4, with 2.61 million sold units, is the most popular game of the series.

“In addition, Super Mario Bros. MovieNintendo reports that its April release had a positive effect on the sales of Mario games. The sales of other titles have also grown steadily. This brings the total of million-sellers during this time period up to 16.

Unit sales for the entire Switch family of consoles, including the OLED model and Switch Lite, are up 2.4 percent year-over-year at 6.84 million units. The total is made up of 1.25 millions standard Switch consoles, 4.69 OLED units and.9 Switch Lite consoles. Total software sales are up 1.8 percent year-over-year to 97.08 million units. Digital sales accounted for 50.2 percent of total software sales, and digital sales are up 15.8 percent year-over-year, too.

It seems that the Switch will continue to grow despite rumors about a Nintendo new-generation console. Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which was released recently, is likely to boost sales in the next quarter.
