Nintendo Switch Sports Gameplay Trailer Reveals Ranked Modes, Mii Customization, And More
Nintendo Switch Sports was first announced in February when fans of the classic Wii Sports game and Nintendo newcomers learned that six sports – Soccer, Volleyball, Bowling, Tennis, Badminton, and Chambara – would be available at launch. You can also see the new overview trailer above which shows a Mii customization mode and a new ranking mode.
Much of February’s footage is repeated in today’s trailer: The game takes place in Spocco Square (a Nintendo Switch multisports facility). Volleyball and Chambara let you play in your own style with the intuitive motion controls. These include serving, bumping and setting up, as well as blocking and dual-wielding swords. Badminton and Tennis also benefit from timing. You have the option to either roll your ball straight, or to take different angles to score that winning strike. Soccer adds an exciting new mechanic to Joy-con. Players can wrap their Joy-con around the thigh they prefer to mimic dynamic kicks.
It’s a common practice to play online and offline multiplayer, but Pro League has a new ranking mode. Every sport has a Pro League. You start with an E-Rank, and you can earn points by winning to move up the leaderboards or enter the highest-tier A rank. There are 12 skill-based ranks in all – it would be pretty sweet if Nintendo Switch Sports amassed a burgeoning esports scene. You can compete against AI and other players while looking cool. The character customization menu allows you to customize the Olympic look that best suits your needs. Any earned points are redeemable for cosmetics while playing online. Mii characters can be used if you want a blocky, low-poly style.
Nintendo Switch Sports launched for the titled console on April 29. Updates for Golf are planned this Fall.
