Nintendo delays Super Mario Bros. movie to 2023
Nintendo’s animated movie based on Super Mario Bros. won’t make its previously announced 2022 release date. Illumination and Nintendo have now announced that the Mario movie would be released next spring.
Shigeru Mishamoto (game designer and Mario creator) made the announcement. on Twitter, through Nintendo of America’s account. Miyamoto claimed that he had made the decision, along with Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri on film production, to defer their Mario movie.
“After consulting with Chris-san, my partner at Illumination on the Super Mario Bros. film, we decided to move the global release to Spring 2023–April 28 in Japan and April 7 in North America,” Miyamoto said. “My deepest apologies but I promise it will be well worth the wait.”
Super Mario Bros. was originally scheduled for theatrical release on Dec. 21, 2023. Its new April 2023 release puts it out of the way of another highly anticipated film, James Cameron’s Avatar 2The movie is expected to be released in theaters by December 16.

Anya Taylor Joy plays Princess Peach while Chris Pratt voices Mario. Jack Black is Bowser. Charlie Day plays Luigi, Keegan Michael Key is Toad, Seth Rogan and Donkey Kong respectively, Kevin Michael Richardson portrays Kamek, Fred Arsen as Cranky Kong, Sebastian Maniscalco portrays Spike, and Charlie Day acts as Luigi.
