Nintendo Confirms That It’s Skipping E3 This Year
Nintendo confirmed it won’t be attending E3 in this year. The announcement comes after a report that stated the console manufacturers are skipping this year’s annual event. Microsoft and Sony have not yet confirmed their participation.
A statement IGN, Nintendo say E3 didn’t fit into its plans but will continue to support the event alongside its organizer, the ESA.
We take each case individually when we are involved in an event and consider all options to reach out to our supporters. Since this year’s E3 show didn’t fit into our plans, we have made the decision to not participate. But, we remain a strong supporter for the ESA and E3.
Nintendo was not only the first console manufacturer to discontinue traditional E3 press conferences, but it also had the last traditional booth on show floor. Nintendo maintained a huge, elaborate and often extravagant booth where demos were held. This was until 2019, when it moved to the Microsoft Theater next door. It also broadcasted Treehouse Live from its Treehouse Live streaming station. Xbox moved its booth out of the convention center to the Microsoft Theater next door in 2018; Sony pulled out of the event entirely in 2019 and hasn’t returned.
ReedPop is organizing E3 2023, which will be held at the Star Wars Celebration and PAX. E3 2023 will take place from June 13-16. There will be dedicated attendance days to industry and fans. Ubisoft confirmed that it would attend E3 even though there is no yet an exhibitor list. It will be the first in-person show since the 2019 edition and only the second to take place since the COVID-19 pandemic started (the 2020 and 2022 editions were completely canceled while 2021 was a virtual event).
