Nintendo 3DS And Wii U Online Functionality Ending Next April
Earlier in the year, Nintendo stopped the eShop for Nintendo 3DSs and Wii Us, signaling the start of their demise. Nintendo announced today that the online functionality of their devices, including online multiplayer, will be ending soon.
Nintendo has confirmed that the online service for its devices will cease in April 2024.
Nintendo 3DS & Wii U Software will cease to be supported by online gaming and all other functions that use online communication in early April 2024. We appreciate your support for our products.

Nintendo announced that online gaming and functionality that relies on online communication for Nintendo 3DS or Wii U will cease in early April 2024. “This also includes cooperative play, internet rankings, and data distribution.”
Nintendo has said that they will announce the exact date and time of the end at a later stage. They also reserve the right to stop these services early if an event happens that makes it impossible to continue the services online for 3DS or Wii U. The company also mentions that this applies to software only available on the New Nintendo 3DS.
A FAQ is included in the official announcement. The company addresses a few questions. The company notes that Pokemon Bank is still usable after April 2024, and “for the foreseeable Future it will be possible to redownload software purchased and downloadable from Nintendo eShop.”
StreetPass, a 3DS favorite, will continue to work, as it relies on the local communication of devices. SpotPass however, uses online communication and will be unavailable after April 20,24.
