New Tokyo Vice trailer brings Michael Mann crime drama to Japan
The official trailer for HBO Max’s Tokyo ViceMichael Mann produced. Monday’s release gave us an update on the undercover crime drama.
This is a reprint of Jake Adelstein’s 2009 memoir. Tokyo Vice The story follows an American journalist, who moves to Tokyo to investigate corruption in the police department and specifically the vice squad. This trailer depicts how the reporter became alienated and called a foreigner by his coworkers, before he was embedded with both the Tokyo police force and Tokyo’s criminal underworld.
The trailer gives us a glimpse of the brightly lit version of New York City that we will see in the show. It also shows the humor and wit the series might have. “What’s it like to be a Yakuza? I could write about that” “Yes, but then I’d have to kill you” (awkward silence and laugh). Also, we get a small glimpse of some action in the form of a short knife fight sequence.
Ansel Elgort (“Tony”) West Side Story, Adelstein (a man who has been accused of multiple sexual assaults) is the star, with Ken Watanabe and Rachel Keller as co-stars.
