New Starship Troopers FPS coming from Squad maker Offworld Industries

This studio is behind the popular tactical, first-person shooter SquadIs creating a brand new game on Starship Troopers. Monday’s announcement by Sony Pictures Consumer Products, Offworld Industries, and Sony Pictures Consumer Products Starship Troopers Extermination, a 12-player, squad-based shooter that pits troopers against swarms of giant bugs, is headed to Windows PC in 2023, where it will launch in Steam’s Early Access program.

Starship Troopers Extermination’s announcement is timed to the original film’s 25th anniversary; Paul Verhoeven’s sci-fi satire hit movie theaters on Nov. 7, 1997. EliminationStarship Troopers Fiction seems to favor guns-and–guts action, and Starship Troopers characters take on the roles of soldier on the Deep Space Vanguard’s mission to eliminate bugs on Valaka.

Offworld Industries states that players work in teams of four in order to accomplish objectives and acquire resources. They also build and defend bases and help to remove the planet from danger. Although roles can be divided into three types (assault and support), all of the players are able to contribute to defense of base. This includes building walls, sendingry towers and ammunition stations with the resources gathered. To communicate with other players, a ping service will be available to alert them to incoming threats as well as points of interest. At least 5 bug types will confront players. Starship Troopers Extermination launches, Offworld said, implying that there’s more to come.

A teaser trailer released Monday doesn’t show much of Starship Troopers Extermination in action, but players can head to the game’s Steam listing to keep an eye on it. The gallery below contains some in-game photos.
