New Spy Kids movie coming to Netflix from Robert Rodriguez

Netflix is getting the Organization of Super Spies.

Skydance media revealed that Robert Rodriguez will be making a return to Spy Kids in 2021. On Wednesday, 23 years after the event began, Skydance media announced that Robert Rodriguez would be returning to Spy Kids. Spy KidsNetflix had announced that the film would soon be streaming on the service. Plot details are still unknown, though Skydance previously told Polygon the film would center on a new “multicultural family” of spies.

The first Spy Kids movie — starring Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Alexa Vega, and Daryl Sabara — premiered in 2001 and follows two kids who discover their parents’ secret life as international super spies. There were two sequels to this movie and one sorta-sequel. These movies featured different characters from the same world.

While Rodriguez is known for action-thrillers, he’s also made a name for himself as a director of kid-tailored action comedies. Rodriguez directed Spy Kids’ 2005 classic. 3D Adventures Sharkboy & Lavagirl. Recently, he returned to the genre with Netflix’s We Can Be HeroesThis movie, which was released last December, is a fun and kid-friendly take on superhero movies.
