New Mass Effect 5 Trailer Teases Original Trilogy, Andromeda, And Maybe A New Protagonist

BioWare, the developer behind EA’s Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises, has released a new trailer for its next Mass Effect game and it teases a connection to the original trilogy and the Andromeda sequel, and maybe even a new protagonist. BioWare, in honor of yesterday being N7 Day (as a nod to the N7 Systems Alliance in Mass Effect), launched a counter on the special Mass Effect Epsilon web page.
On the website, a decoded message reads:
/////ACCESSCODE: EPSILON
/////ACCESSCODE ACCEPTED
/////SECONDARY ENCRYPTION DETECTED
/////VJBSVU-XXXX-XXXXXXXX
///// ANDROMEDA DISTRUSS SIGNAL Detected
/////YEAR SENT: [REDACTED]
/////AUDIO TRANSCRIPT: ALTHOUGH THEY SHOULD KNOW BY NOW NOT TO UNDERESTIMATE HUMAN [REDACTED]
This transcription, as you can see mentions the distress signal of Andromeda, the galaxy where the fourth Mass Effect was set, more than 600 year after the events in the first Mass Effect trilogy. BioWare then released a 30-second teaser trailer following the release of this teaser. This new video hints that there is a link to these original games.
Below is the teaser trailer of N7 Day 2023.:
The person wearing the N7 logo in the video above is clearly a reference to the Mass Effect 1 and 2 games. And, while we don’t yet know who this character is, given the way BioWare is hyping them up, we wouldn’t be surprised if they were the next Mass Effect protagonist. BioWare tweeted a picture of them.

BioWare unveiled its next Mass Effect during The Game Awards 2020 with a trailer that included the character Liara of the original trilogy, as well as a relay message broken. In 2021, we received another clue with an N7 Day special image. The following N7 Day 2022 featured another clip from the game that contained a secret audio message. Yesterday’s N7 Day tease marks the third year in a row we’ve learned just a little more about BioWare’s next Mass Effect.
The teaser follows the news in August of BioWare laying off fifty employees as part of studio restructuring. Many of these long-time BioWare veterans were affected.
