New Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC fixes the Switch version of Coconut Mall

Second wave Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass downloadable content is here, bringing eight fresh tracks to the Nintendo Switch game, including one that’s (technically) brand-new: Sky-High Sundae. But Mario Kart 8 fans will be happy to hear about another change ushered in by Thursday’s DLC drop in the form of a tweak to Coconut Mall.

Coconut Mall is a song that first appeared in Mario Kart WiiTo this, a new word was added Mario Kart 8 Deluxe earlier this year with the release of wave 1 of the Switch game’s Booster Course Pass. Coconut Mall was slightly modified for Switch. A group of cars, near the course’s end, that are all in Switch, were placed at the beginning of the course. Mario Kart WiiInstead of moving back and forth, they were completely still. As of Thursday, however, those cars move again — and the Shy Guys behind the wheel will occasionally do donuts.

Here’s a peek at that change, which Nintendo proudly promoted on TwitterPink Gold Peach and her life getting completely destroyed by it.

Those stunt-drivin’ Shy Guys now present a more serious threat to Mario Kart players, which will no doubt surprise and delight — and also destroy some leads. Don’t tell your friends.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass ultimately promises a total of 48 fresh courses remastered from past Mario Kart games, including the original Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart: Double Dash, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart 7And Mario Kart Tour. Nintendo has other plans.

The Booster Pass Pass cost $24.99. Nintendo Switch Online + Extension Pass members have access to all 48 courses.
