New Horus Heresy boxed set announced, more 40K reveals from AdeptiCon

Games Workshop revealed a load of new Warhammer 40,000 products on Wednesday, among them new Chaos Knight upgrade kits and our first look at Necromunda’s big new expansion. But the most exciting reveal by far came at the very end of the AdeptiCon 2022 presentation — Warhammer: The Horus Heresy This all-new, plastic-boxed set is completely new. The announcement was accompanied by a lavish cinematic trailer, which we’ve embedded above. The release date and pricing of the movie were not announced.

The Horus Heresy was first published by Dan Abnett. Volume 1. Horus RisingIn 2006, a book called, was released. Multiple fantasy writers have retold the tale of Horus Lupercal who was one of the original Space Marine Primarchs as well as the founder father of the Luna Wolves Legion, in dozens of novels. This tale is set in the year 30000 and tells of an alternate history of humans that led to Warhammer 40K’s dark future.

The Horus Heresy miniatures game was first published in 2012, and consists of multiple campaign books along with an entire line of miniatures — many of them quite expensive, as they’re cast in hard resin. Multipart plastic miniatures will be featured in the new boxed set, which should lower costs and make it easier for builders. The boxed set will include the revised core rulebook which can be purchased separately. Diehard fans shouldn’t get too worried about that, however. The presenters from Games Workshop indicated it’s less of a full reboot of the game, and more of a refinement.

The other big announcement of the evening was a massive new expansion for one of Games Workshop’s most vibrant lines, a system called Necromunda. The story of the augmented superhuman soldiers in 40K and The Horus Heresy is told by The Horus Heresy. The Necromunda series is about the fight for the control of the criminal underworld. With the 2017 boxed set, this line was revived. Hive War: NecromundaIt has evolved over time into many new factions. A decent, first-person shooter videogame called “The Game” is also available. Fans of 40K have the final piece of news: a Chaos-tainted variant of two of their classic Imperial Knights designs. Knights are powerful and ancient mechs that can be used for 40K or the Horus Heresy. The new boxed set includes three Chaos Knights and plastic upgrades sets that can be used to enhance existing kits.

AdeptiCon also featured new factions revealed at the presentation Warhammer Underworlds: Harrowdeep Blood Bowl. We’ve included a gallery of additional images below.
