Omar Sy (LupinLaurent Lafitte and.ElleThe Netflix buddy cop comedy is back! The Takedown. Set after the events of 2012’s Tracks from the Other Side, misfit cops Ousmane Diakité (Sy) and François Monge ( Lafitte) are reunited to investigate a criminal conspiracy that will take them all across France.

Our review:

Leterrier, as a director knows how to have a lot of fun. He’s proven his flair for intricate setpieces in the manic magic heist movie Here’s What You Can See About MeThe martial-arts action film UnleashedJet Li is an enforcer who was raised by Jet Li to be a canine attack dog. Leterrier is a master of dynamic colors, reds, blues. This gives his actions a much more joyful palette than contemporary action flicks like. The Adam ProjectOr The 355. (Leterrier recently replaced Justin Lin as the director of the Fast & Furious franchise installment Quick X.)

Hatching

What to Watch:Hulu is available to stream

Finnish Horror Movie that also doubles up as an online satire Hatching follows Tinja, a 12-year-old girl who has been the subject of her parents’ video blog for seemingly her entire life. When Tinja comes across a strange egg and brings it home, it quickly grows before … well, hatching into a creature nicknamed “Alli.”

Our review:

Alli, however, is an enchanting presence which gives the film its cultish shivery centre. Bergholm tells Polygon that she literally Googled the world’s best specialist in movie animatronics, then reached out to him about working on the film. This bold decision paid off. Gustav Hoegen was her animatronics supervisor. He had previously worked with Lucasfilm’s practical creature-effects team. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Solo, The Last Jedi, Rogue OneAnd The Force Awakens. Her SFX makeup head, Conor O’Sullivan, comes with a similar pedigree, as half of the Oscar-nominated effects duo who gave Heath Ledger his grotesque leer as the Joker in The Dark Knight. They make Alli horribly visceral together with their teams, giving it the weight and conviction that a practical effect rather than a CG one. And Solalinna’s performance with the puppet is convincing and distressing. They bring the film to an unforgettable end, pushing it past its weaknesses.

Dear Evan Hansen

Adapted from the Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical of the same name, Stephen Chbosky’s coming-of-age musical film Dear Evan HansenBen Platt stars as a high-school senior suffering from social anxiety disorder. After the passing of a classmate, Platt embarks on a journey to self-discovery.

There’s been a lot of chatter about the film since it came out last year, most of which directed at Platt’s, uh, questionable portrayal of an adolescent youth. Is this a “so bad it’s good” kind of musical, or just plain bad? This is our review.

Platt’s technically accomplished, otherwise disastrous performance starts to make more sense as an act of compensation. He sings with a strained, distorted delivery. This is how he communicates his inner turmoil against the inertia and blockages of his body. Stephen Chbosky, DirectorWallflowers have many perksSimilar to ), he struggles to make a screen large enough to fit on the silver screen. Evan shows that he is viral at his corniest by throwing an avalanche of video messages from smartphones through a vacuum to create an Instagram photo. As Evan searches for hints of beauty in his school’s everyday drabness — Chbosky’s aesthetic could be fairly described as “the ‘before’ part of a commercial for mood-altering medication” — the film gets stuck in the banality he’s trying to escape.

Based on Sarah Dessen’s 2009 young adult romance novel, Enjoy the rideAuden (Emma Pasarow), an innocent young girl who visited her father at Colby Beach, California in the summer prior to attending college, follows Auden. Eli (Belmont Cameli), her mysterious boyfriend, meets Auden. Auden, along with Eli (Belmont Cameli), embarks on nightly excursions around the town. She is forced to confront her fears and ask herself what her dreams are.

Marmaduke

A computer-animated comedy for 2022 MarmadukeThe story tells of Pete Davidson, an unusually large dog who engages in all manner of mischief and tomfoolery. After going viral and being accused of being untrainable, the world’s greatest dog trainer endeavors to turn Marmaduke into a prize-winning pooch. The lovable dog will win, but will the world forever remember him as an untrainable dog?

Thar

What to Watch:Netflix is available to stream

Anil Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor, a father-son team, star in TharA Hindi-language revenge thriller, set close to the India-Pakistan border in the 1980s. Siddharth plays the handsome antiques dealer and Surekha Singh is the local cop who investigates a series of recent murders. These two men will cross paths and long-buried secrets will come out. Justice will also be challenged when justice is called into question.

The Twin

What to Watch:Shudder streaming available

This week’s second Finnish horror film (which is also available in English) concerns a family who moves to Sweden following the death of one their twins. Their new setting is not as idyllic as they’d like, though, as they learn some startling truths that threaten to upend their family as they know it.

Blacklight

What to Watch:Amazon, Apple, Vudu and Vudu are all available for rent at $5.99

This is the latest, in a very long series. Lang A collection of Liam Neeson-led action flicks Blacklight stars Neeson as Travis Block, a government “fixer” with a particular set of skills that includes interrogating (i.e., beating people up) and infiltrating highly secured areas. Block is egged on by his granddaughter and daughter to help him cooperate with a plot against U.S. citizens. He instead goes on an all-out killing spree against FBI Director Gabriel Robinson, (Aidan Quinn), to get his daughter and granddaughter back.
