Netflix Announces Gears Of War Live-Action Film And Animated Series
Today marks 16 years since the first Gear of War video game. Netflix celebrates by announcing that it will adapt the series to both live action and animated form.
The streaming giant revealed the news in a tweet that’s light on details but states it’s partnering with Gears developer The Coalition. It may not stop there, as Netflix also says there’s “potential for more stories to follow!”

It’s unclear if Netflix’s project is different from the Gears film announced in 2016 or if they’re now one and the same. The movie was quietly floating about for many years with F. Scott Frazier as the screenwriter.xXxx: Return to Xander’s Cage2018: (joining). Dylan Clark, a Producer who is also Attached and has recently Worked on Batman, provided an update in March, teasing a new announcement “very soon.” If this is the news Clark alluded to, “very soon” is quite the stretch, but we’ll see if Netflix confirms it has taken over production or is making its own adaptation.
Potential cast Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista has publicly petitioned to play Marcus Fenix on several occasions; the closest he’s come is appearing as himself in Fenix’s armor as a skin in Gears 5. It would be a good idea to make that casting now, considering that Bautista is 53.
This joins the pile of video game adaptations Netflix has in production. Bioshock is being made into a movie, along with many TV series. Sonic Prime, a second season of Cuphead ShowAnd The WitcherThis was renewed for Seasons 3, and 4. Liam Hemsworth stars in the fourth season. Netflix has also become a game publisher, acquiring a number of studios such as Oxenfree developer Night School and, most recently, Spryfox (Cozy Grove) to release games under its banner.
