NCSoft announces Project M, expected in 2023 on console

South Korean studio NCSoft announced a trailer for its “new interactive movie game,” called Project MOn Tuesday. Project MUnreal Engine 5 was used to create the project. It is due out for consoles by 2023, as announced by the studio via a news release. Specific consoles weren’t mentioned.

The hyper-realistic trailer does, indeed, look like a movie — there’s near photorealistic graphics on display alongside what NCSoft describes as “cinematic production.” The trailer features a story that’s centered around a husband — Possibility — getting revenge on his wife’s murderer.

The game looks dark and scary but is full of action. It seems that player choice is important all through the game, with buttons popping up in gameplay to impact the story and making it more interesting. NCSoft confirmed in the news release that “player choice and control can influence the story and the ending of the game.” That seems to be for everything from decisions, dialogue, and precision-based actions. NCSoft included some behind the scenes footage, such as motion capture and 3D scanning in the trailer.

Chief Development Officer at NCSoft Project MIt is part of larger effort to promote transparency and openness in the development process. More development progress footage is expected in the form of “trailer videos, interviews, novels, and webtoons.”
