Mortal Kombat’s Greg Russo to write, direct System Shock TV series

Mortal KombatGreg Russo, screenwriter and director of the next television series, is looking to trade in his fatalities for psionic enhancements. It will be a live-action TV series that is based on the Sci-Fi survival horror video game. System Shock. Russo was selected to direct and write the adaptation of the survival-horror RPG series. The Binge gaming entertainment streaming platform will launch in 2022.

The original was released in 1994. System ShockThe story follows an unnamed hacker, who wakes up aboard the Citadel Station, 2072. He is confronted with horrific mutants and murderous Cyborgs. A malevolent AI, known as SHODAN, also threatens Earth’s dominion. The 1999 sequel is also available. System Shock 2, went on to become a cult favorite and inspired several spiritual successors, including the BioShock series and 2017’s Prey. A sequel. System Shock 3The announcement of the upcoming release was made in 2015. However, no window for its availability has been established.

Russo will write the script and produce it with Stephen Kick and Larry Kuperman from Nightdive Studios. Nightdive Studios is the rights holders for the System Shock franchise. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to work alongside the fantastic team at Binge and Nightdive Studios to bring the iconic System Shock franchise to life,” said Russo. “I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to make my directorial debut, and I finally found it.”

Yesterday, Warner Bros. announced that a sequel to 2021’s Mortal KombatMovie is in production and that Jeremy Slater (head writer) for the upcoming Moon KnightTelevision series has been selected to be written. The casting and release dates for this series have not been revealed. System ShockTelevision series available at the moment.
