Mortal Kombat (2011) | Super Replay

Mortal Kombat 1 will be here soon, and we want to revisit Mortal Kombat 9 (aka MK 9), the 2011 entry which set Mortal Kombat on its present trajectory. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, released in 2006, seemed to end the story of Mortal Kombat. 2011’s installment picked up where it left off. This entry moved the story forward, reset the timeline and served as a soft-reboot that returned Mortal Kombat’s 2D fighting roots. MK 9’s cinematic campaign mode was a turning point for both the fighting game series as well as the entire genre, and set the standard for today’s narrative campaigns. MK9 also acts as a first chapter in the new trilogy that Mortal Kombat 1 is built upon.

Editors Marcus Stewart & Kyle Hilliard will battle their way though MK 9 and see how it’s reimagined tourney holds up.
