Mortal Kombat 1 Gameplay Premiere Shows Roster, Story Details, Kameo Fighters, and more

Mortal Kombat 1 is finally here, four years after the previous entry. This trailer was shown off at Summer Game Fest. It shows a great deal of gameplay. The full trailer can be viewed below.

Netherrealm was able to revamp the Mortal Kombat series after Mortal Kombat 11. This new entry is a sort of reboot. The classic characters are now in new situations and with new relationships. Liu Kang has become a fire goddess, while Scorpion and Sub Zero, who were once rivals, are now brothers. Jean-Claude Van Damme now plays Johnny Cage. He was the inspiration for the Mortal Kombat originals.

The Kameo fighters add a new twist to the canon of the series, as classic characters such as Kano, Sonia and Jax fight alongside you. After selecting your main character, you can choose from another roster of fighters to use as Kameo. While some fighters will likely be exclusive to the Kameo selection, Ed Boon has clarified that there will be some overlap – Sub-Zero can serve as both a Kameo and a normal fighter.

Mortal Kombat 1 releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC September 19, 2023.
