MLB The Show 23, including a detailed look at the new Storylines: Negro Leagues feature, we’re back with even more info about some of the exciting gameplay improvements and features that will be in store when MLB The Show 23S, and day one with Xbox Game Pass.|S, and day one with Xbox Game Pass. Let’s dive in!

Defense

More than ever, high fielding attributes are important. It is now more apparent that there are a wide range of players with different fielding attributes. A player with a lower fielding attribute than a higher one will respond slower to contact off the bat.

There are a few options for throwing interfaces depending on skill level and engagement level. Buttons and analog are more accessible interfaces that rely on Arm Accuracy, which was tuned in accordance with MLB statistics. You can also improve your game by using the Button Accuracy Meter, which gives you complete control over your throws.

If using Button Accuracy throwing interface, consistent with last year’s game, the green portion of the meter (indicates a throw that will be accurate to the fielder), scales based on the Arm Accuracy attribute. The functionality of this meter is now different. The speed of the meter needle has slowed in recent years. It is designed to help facilitate future changes.

The meter had been consistent in previous years, which meant that the green spot was always at the center. Many of you found this method easy to learn. The green part of the meter now moves dynamically when there are difficult Infield plays or long outfield throws. This dynamic change improves defense skills and increases the realism.

You will see a yellow section of the meter when you force throw to first base. This area indicates where dirt balls are found. The frequency of the play being made is based on the first baseman’s Fielding attribute. For more information and to practice throwing and fielding skills, please visit us.

Defense has been given two new quirks. These two quirks are Get OutlierAnd Select Artist. Break Outliers are more likely to lose a break than pitchers without this quirk. The chances of picking off a winning pick-off are twice as high for a pitcher who is a Pick Off Artist.

Offense

The revamped competitive game engine makes the pitcher-batter relationship even more dynamic. And don’t worry Casual or Simulation fans, we have also tuned and balanced those gameplay styles as well.

This is one of the most important attribute upgrades to MLB The Show 23We have redefined what it means to be “The” Clutch attribute. Clutch attribute is directly replaced by contact for runners who are scoring. This facilitates more realistic communication. The battle between a batter’s Contact attribute and a pitcher’s Hits per 9 innings (H/9) attribute is directly replaced with batter Clutch and Pitcher Clutch with Runners in scoring position (RISP).

There are now two quirks that can be used to offense. Two new quirks have been added to offense: Bad Ball Hitter, and Table Setter. The Bad Ball Hitter is a batter who excels at hitting pitches beyond the Strike Zone. With no runners, a batter who has Table Setter is able to excel.

Animations

We’ve added over 5,000 gameplay animations to MLB The Show 23! There are hundreds of animations to choose from, including dives and robbery foul balls. We also have hot shots at the corners and animations that emphasize urgency and efficiency.

Gaming Styles

All players have different gameplay preferences. The gameplay styles of Simulation and Casual are constantly being adapted. The most significant gameplay change is in competitive gameplay.

Competitive gameplay style is the default for all Online Head-to-Head* games and all Diamond Dynasty* modes. You can access the Competitive Gameplay Style by going to the gameplay settings, and then switching the Gameplay Style setting in General Difficulty.

This style of gameplay aims to enhance consistency between good and bad inputs for good results. It does not depart from basic baseball strategy. You will see more hits and missed swings. There are fewer choppers and popups.

Clearer Player, Visual Updates in-game and Functionality Improvements

There have been updates to the game’s in-game display. The main focus of visual display improvements was to improve clarity for the players.

Swing Feedback

The bottom right corner displays the Swing Feedback after an attempt at swinging. It displays the following information: Batter Attributes; Pitch Location; Pitch Type; Swing Timing and Plate Coverage Indiator Placement. The feedback describes the success of the hit. It is not easy to perfect this art but there have been strides made in improving precision and accuracy. The previous versions of MLBTS swing input displayed Swing Inputs to the left, and the outputs to the right. Swing feedback can now be read top-to-bottom, from left to right.

Gaming D-pad function

Now, the Directional Buttons show live and up-to-date Statcast numbers. Directional Buttons show important Pitcher/Batter matchups. This is an attempt to provide all factors that can impact the At–Bat. These include vital characteristics that can dynamically swap out and any quirks. Up on the Directional Buttons remains relatively consistent to previous years of MLB The Show, with slight functionality updates, including the ability to bring in a pitcher that’s being warmed up without needing to navigate back into the bullpen.

Setting Updates

To better explain what each setting does, the descriptions, terminology and organization of settings have been improved. You can now customize Pre-Pitch displays for Offense and Defence with two new settings. Display now has two new options that allow greater control of what information appears on the screen in advance of a pitch being given. This includes Pitch Select Displays, and Batter Controls Display.

Further Visual Updates

For a first-base runner, the windows for runners are located in the top left. The windows for third base runners can be found at top left. During pre-pitch, this camera is now visible in the top left baserunning diamond. This camera displays the number of runners currently in use. Logic determines which runner will be shown. You can now display important information in the upper left corner, such as Road to The Show’s base gains, moment tracking and Dynamic Difficulty.

Updating Custom Practice

We’ve added some important functionality to Custom Practice. You will now find two new functions. Now, while Batting, you can adjust specific pitches around the Strike Zone. This tool can be very helpful in improving your vision and pinpointing problem areas. In the past, players were able to only turn certain pitches On or Off. The slider allows players to select the pitch frequency through which they want.

Attribute descriptions

MLB The Show has a lot of attributes and if you’re new to the franchise you might not know what they all mean. The handbook/strategies guide can be found in the Pause menu. Also, the Diamond Dynasty Handbook now contains descriptions for each attribute. These descriptions offer insight as to how each attribute interacts with games. This information is intended to help players make informed decisions when creating a team or managing important events in the game.

The Passive Quirks of Change

We’ve removed passive quirks from MLB The Show 23. It seems that simplifying the quirk system is the best option. There was confusion about Active Quirks vs. Passive Quirks. This change will hopefully bring clarity as only quirks that have an impact on gameplay are displayed.

Updated Options Explorer

New options have been added for explorer audio and artwork. The area is great for learning the mechanics within MLB The Show. For gameplay mechanics, it is a rule of thumb that the greater the player’s control over the mechanic, gameplay must be controlled less by the CPU.

MLB Rule Changes

Changes in Extreme Left or Extreme Right are being implemented now MLB The Show 23. These modifications provide an excellent baseline, but they will require tuning to reflect real life strategies seen during the MLB season.

Co-operative Online H2H

To provide the best possible experience, we are constantly improving online stability. Play Now Co-Op allows players to change the rotational pattern before they load into the game. Teams no longer have to choose between rotating defense roles and offense rotations per inning. (Online features require internet connection).
