Minecraft Legends beginners guide: 9 things to know before starting

There’s a lot going on in the world of Minecraft Legends at any given point, and even with a suite of tutorials easing you into the RTS game, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. To save the blocky worlds, you must divide your time between gathering resources and hunting Piglins. Build an army that is diverse

You can only get so much out of them. The game unlocks more types of golems, as well as the ability to recruit classical MinecraftCritters – a small way into Minecraft Legends, and it’s well worth experimenting with different combinations to make battles easier.

• Stone golems are excellent for taking down enemy structures, but they won’t help much during an invasion.
• Creepers and skeletons can’t destroy fortresses and walls easily, but they are more effective at dealing with enemy mobs than your wooden golems. After a brief time, creepers explode. Skeletons can fire over walls.

Set up your spawn point on the edge your battleground and experiment with a mix of unit types. This will help you determine what best suits your needs and style.

Never waste resources

You are limited to how much you can collect during the tutorial. Once that phase ends, though, you’re free to harvest as much wood, stone, and, eventually, iron and other resources as you can hold — and you should max it out whenever you can. It costs a lot of resources to build defensive fortifications or other field structures.

Take a moment to set up harvesting equipment in areas rich in resources as soon as possible after you enter a new village. In most cases, you wind up with a few hundred of whatever resource you’re gathering just from one round of harvesting. Make these gathering methods a habit, and you’ll never lack for materials to build strong defenses.

Buildings at Every Village

You’ll spend as much time repelling Piglins from villages as you will dismantling Nether Portals. When you arrive at a village, fortifying it will make defending yourself against the enemy’s hordes easier. As soon as you reach a new settlement, spend some time building walls, towers and other fortifications all around its perimeter.

Also, be inventive. You can use the basic square perimeter, yes, but you might also consider building a V-shaped wall that directs Piglins to a corner that is surrounded by multiple watchtowers, or even a bridge which drops them in an enclosure.

You will need to allow enough space for at least one entrance and exit so that you can move in and out of the village.

The key to a successful watchtower is the use of a tower.

This particular watchtower is the most effective defensive weapon you have. These towers are large, can deal serious damage to Piglins and, equally important, they distract enemy soldiers from attacking or tearing down walls. You don’t even need a wall to build a watchtower. If you build several of them in succession, your village will be well protected.

You must make sacrifices

That said, you can’t be everywhere all at once. It is a world that you can never be in all places at the same time. Minecraft Legends moves at its own pace, so while you’re destroying a fortress or defending one village, another is probably falling to the Piglin army. It’s impractical to drop what you’re doing to save every village that comes under attack, so you’ll occassionally need to just let them fall.

Good defensive fortifications can help villages last longer, but if Piglins do overrun them, you only need to defeat every pig in a village’s boundaries to liberate it again. There’s no time limit either, so you’re free to put it off until you’ve got time — or just ignore it completely.

Don’t hesitate to jump in the fray yourself

Your basic sword attack can easily take out stronger foes and even Piglins. You can easily defeat stronger Piglins with your basic sword attacks. Your mobs will also be distracted by your attacks, allowing them to tear down Piglins structures.

You can run for a couple of seconds to regain your health if you are injured. If you’re lucky, you might even be able to lure Piglins into lava by crossing a bridge or leaping over a lava pool with an enemy mob in tow.

Use advanced Banner Controls

Your basic banner controls let you send all your followers to a certain point at once, but it’s often wiser to use the advanced controls and select just a portion of your army to charge forth. These controls are best used after the first assault on three Piglin Fortresses. You can control your mobs more effectively with advanced controls. Then you can send some soldiers in a certain direction and rally the Creeper squad, which will then be sent into the center of a Piglin mob. Finally, send golems towards a nearby building. It’s generally just a more efficient way to manage your army.

The default setting is hold. This means that you must hold down the Build button while constructing your structure. It’s not the most convenient default, and if often makes building while moving more difficult than it should be. If you’re struggling, head to the controller or keyboard section of the menu to fix the issue.

Building wells

During your first battle against the Nether Portal you will learn how to construct wells. You should then build these regularly all over the map. Wells are useful rest areas, but more importantly, they’re also fast travel points. Normaly, fast traveling is only possible to liberated villages. By placing wells all over the map, you can reduce your travel time and make it easier for villages to be defended.
