Microsoft Flight Simulator Releases the Highly Versatile Antonov An-2 Aircraft

Aviators can easily test their skills in one of the aviation world’s most versatile and resilient aircraft.

Microsoft Flight SimulatorWe are thrilled to bring a rugged, versatile aviation icon into the in-sim market today. Antonov is the Ukrainian manufacturer of aviation. The An-2 utility plane has a single engine, small take-off and landing (STOL), design. An An-2 has a crew of two, and can accommodate up to twelve people.

Between 1947 and 2001 in Poland, over 18,000 An-2s had been built. Some of the licensed models are still being manufactured in China. There are at least 40 applications for the aircraft. These include crop dusting and passenger transport. The An-2’s unmanned, unmanned capabilities and easy modification make it an ideal aircraft for military purposes.

An-2’s roots can be traced back to 1930s when Oleg Antonov, Soviet aeronautical engineer, envisioned an all-purpose, one-engine utility plane that would serve many civil purposes. Antonov got his chance years later when the Soviet government granted him that opportunity in 1946. On May 31, 1946, the top-secret Soviet Research and Design Bureau Number 153 (“OKB-153”) was created. This bureau would become Antonov Company. The biplane Antonov had designed years before was its first project. The aircraft flew its maiden flight after months of intense work, even during wartime.

The hallmark of the An-2 is its ability to fly slowly; it doesn’t have a published stall speed. The An-2’s large wings, and the leading edge slats which automatically deploy when airspeed falls below 40 MPH (mph), allow pilots to fly at speeds of 32 to 32 mph. In certain circumstances, they can even fly slower.

An-2 stands 40 feet 8 inches long and has a standard empennage. It also features a traditional fixed underneathcarriage which can hold skis or other floats as well terrestrial wheel landing equipment. The An-2’s upper wings span 59 feet 9 inches and the lower wing 46 feet 7 inches. A Shvetsov ASz62IR supercharged radial engine of 1,000 horsepower powers the 9-cylinder unit. It turns a 4-blade variable pitch. You can launch it with as little 65 feet of runway and only 50 feet of ground roll. With a payload, it can climb up to 500 feet per second and 880 feet per min without payload. It cruises at 130 mph, and can descend to a maximum speed of 160 miles per hour.

You can choose from four different models, each with 4K Liveries.

  • This is a terrestrial wheel landing gear with standard cockpit and steam gauges.
    • Antonov Airlines. Xbox Aviators Club. Aviators Club. Red. Bare White. Blue. Dark. Green. Metal.
