Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, And HD Collections Temporarily Removed From Digital Stores

Hideo Kojima’s revolutionary franchise, Metal Gear Solid, remains one of the most beloved tactical espionage (and wacky military dramatizations) of all time. Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater, have been compelling examples of stealth mechanisms that are based on temperature and weather. They also feature outfitted camouflage and other elements. These stories combine with powerful narrative themes that explore philosophy and morality. The classics might be difficult to enjoy for some fans, even though they are available on digital storefronts temporarily.  The HD HD Collections containing Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are temporarily being removed from the digital stores.

According to the Metal Gear portal on Konami’s official website, a long list of Metal Gear games will be inaccessible. This information reads:

“Temporary removal of METAL GEAR SOLID 2 and METAL GEAR SOLID 3 from digital storefronts (PlayStation®3, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, etc.)

We are grateful for your participation in the METAL GEAR Series.

We are working to renew the licenses of selected archive footage from the past. As such, we will temporarily suspend sales of METAL GEAR SOLID 2 & METAL GEAR SOLID 3 and any products that contain these games via digital marketplaces worldwide starting November 8th 2021.

We sincerely ask for your patience and understanding as we work towards making these products available for purchase once again.”

You can find the following list of games that have been affected (along with some titles that may not be available in certain regions/countries):

  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty HD Edition (PlayStation 3, Vita)
  • Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater HD Edition – PlayStation 3, Vita
  • Metal Gear Solid HD Edition (PlayStation3, Vita, PlayStation Now).
  • Metal Gear Solid HD Edition: 2 & 3 (Xbox 360)
  • Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D (3DS).
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (GOG.com)
  • Metal Gear Solid 2 for Shield TV (Nvidia Shield)
  • Metal Gear Solid 3 for Shield TV (Nvidia Shield)

We’ll keep you posted on the status of the historical footage and licenses and whether or not the games are available. The products listed above will no longer be available starting today, November 8. In the meantime, you could always check out Kojima’s Death Stranding on PlayStation 4 or the Director’s Cut on PlayStation 5, which Blake Hester and I both agree is one of the most important games in recent memory.
