Medieval Ink Strategy Game Inkulinati Enters Early Access This Winter

Inkulinati was first revealed in 2020 and is an imagiative strategic game. It brings medieval manuscripts’ unique style to life. The game unfolds within the parchment itself as players control humans, animals, and mythical creatures to battle it out in turn-based battles that are equal parts thoughtful and ridiculous. Inkulinati has looked promising every time it’s made an appearance, and we can finally see how it’s shaping up thanks to an upcoming early access launch. 

Inkulinati is available on Steam Early Access, and Xbox Game Preview this winter. Inkulinati is the character you play. He can create amazing illustrations by using his magical Living Ink. In a book, players can command units that strategically chop, bludgeon and fart enemies to win the battle. This will allow them to take down the Inkulinati. 

You can also recruit humans, animals, birds, cats and snails. Every unit has its own traits and more members can be unlocked through playing. There are different styles of play, some preferring a more tactical approach to others while others require more aggression. You can play as a solo player or challenge your friends to 1-on-1 matches.

And for those wondering: yes, this is a different game than Pentiment, Obsidian Entertainment’s recently announced narrative adventure game that shares the same artistic influences.  

Inkulinati will first be released on Xbox and PC. However, a Switch version of the game is being considered. It will be available at Gamescom’s Xbox booth next week.
